![]() ![]() They are just a quick walk to the beach and the main downtown strip of downtown. Many, but not all, of the houses have been recently renovated. These old Victorian style homes feature wrap around porches in a classic charming Southern style. Located right in the heart of Cape Charles, there are some incredibly beautiful houses available for rent in the historic district. You have a few options for where to stay in Cape Charles, and we will lay them out below. You can rent carts of all different sizes from Eastern Shore Custom Carts. There is even a golf cart path leading to Cape Charles Brewery. While Cape Charles is quite small and easily walkable, the preferred way to get around is via golf cart, which makes it super easy to transport all your beach gear. Be aware that crossing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge requires an $18 toll each way ($14 during the off-season). You do have to cross the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, which can add some time to the trip due to traffic, especially in the summer months. The drive is just over two hours from Richmond and just under four hours from Washington D.C., Baltimore or Raleigh assuming no traffic. Getting Thereĭespite being a lesser known beach destination, Cape Charles is actually quite easy to get to. We’ve even visited during the dead of winter and had a great time exploring the town, walking on the nature trails and cooking a homemade seafood boil, despite not being able to hang out on the beach. We prefer to visit during the spring and fall, April through May and September through October, for milder temperatures and fewer crowds. Peak season is in the summer, from June through early September. Never, ever under any circumstance stay at this hotel, the attached campground may be better, but it wouldn’t take much.Planning your trip to Cape Charles When to go I paid $720.00 for two nights, thinking it would be a good quick weekend getaway, I was wrong, I paid four-star rates for a ½ star hotel. The late check-out didn’t matter to us, we were more than ready to leave. ![]() The change of times was not in the computer, only that I had paid in full. When I asked about the late check out, all the desk attendant said was “Huh”, not as in a question, but a statement. When I checked in, I waited for 30 minutes then I realized everyone checked in early. The resort (or one of their service people) called me to see if I wanted to pay in full two days before my arrival, and if I did, I could check in two hours early and check out two hours later, so I complied. I hope an older person attempting to put a top on their coffee cup doesn’t spill it all over themselves and get burned but I’m sure it was of no concern to her. For just one example the coffee cups in the lobby had tops provided, the tops did not fit the cups and I mentioned it to her, she said “I know”. It seems she thought if there was any issue with anything it was the guest’s fault, not just me but everyone I saw her encounter. The apparent “Desk Manager” was the worst of all. The absolute rudest front desk personnel I have ever encountered, they have absolutely no idea what they are doing. Was told I could get trash bags at the desk but would not be brought to the room. There were no ice buckets or ice machines available to guests, you were given a small bag of ice from the room behind the front desk upon request, that is if they weren’t too busy talking between themselves. Shower head was not adjustable, it was a straight pipe with not possible head adjustment. Toilet seat was broken Sink would not drain Bathroom smelled and had visible mildew, no soap holder or place to place items in the shower. We didn’t pack ours only to find the coffee pot in the room was a single cup brew, maybe not a big deal to most, but it is to us. I was told the coffee pot was full sized. Prior to arrival I had called and asked if the coffee pot in the room was full size, if not I would bring my own. No shuttle service was available as advertised in the handout upon arrival and the website, a major decision maker for us. Room was filthy, I doubt the floor had been mopped in weeks.
